Strategic Cooperation between Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding and Shenzhen Airport Group

Shenzhen (China) – Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding – acting on behalf of Leipzig/Halle Airport – and Shenzhen Airport (Group) Company Limited – acting for Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport – signed a cooperation agreement during the leading Chinese transport fair, the China (Shenzhen) International Logistics and Transportation Fair (CLIF). The arrangement is primarily directed at the air freight sector and the intended cooperation covers market processing and customer acquisition and an exchange of information and personnel.

Both air freight sites view themselves as development engines in their respective regions. Both Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport and Leipzig/Halle Airport have the necessary infrastructure and the required capacity to handle significant volumes of European or Asia/Pacific flows of goods and therefore pool international commodity flows through their airports.

Leipzig/Halle Airport was the only European site to register continuous double digit growth during the course of the global economic crisis. “The transport and logistics business has used the recent crisis to optimise its logistics chains. Leipzig/Halle Airport has increasingly become a focus of attention for the logistics industry with its favourable geographical location for linking the Asian and European markets. We will now persuade potential customers in the relevant target markets about the quality of the services available at Leipzig/Halle and Shenzhen in conjunction with our Chinese partners and so familiarise people with the freight hub beyond the borders of Europe,” says Erich Staake, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG.

Being in the centre of the Pearl River Delta area, Shenzhen Airport generates more than five million tons of freight annually. “With an ever-growing flight network, quality service and adequate infrastructure, Shenzhen Airport is to cooperate closely with Leipzig-Halle Airport, on a wide range of fields and to provide tailor-made service solution to our potential customers”, says Mr. Yang Wang, Chairman of Board of Directors of Shenzhen Airport (Group) Company Limited.

One of the key points in the future cooperation arrangement not only involves an ongoing exchange of experiences in the fields of innovation and technology, but also a consistent transfer of expertise. “It is our aim to develop unified standards in providing information to joint customers and anchor them in a high-class quality management system. This offers enormous potential for jointly winning customers and will provide new impetus for growth at Leipzig/Halle,” says Markus Kopp, CEO at Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG.
